How to Safely Hang a Clock
Hooking up a clock to the wall isn't as easy as you would anticipate. Sure, if you have a light and cheap clock you can easily slide it on a screw and it will stay up. Things that are heavier require a little more care because safety is a concern. Basically you don't want the clock to fall on someone and you definitely don't want the clock to fall and break. Doing this properly will require a little work, especially if you're hanging up a heavier type of clock.
Obviously you got to find that sweet spot where you want to hang it. Find a general area of where you want it. You can't just put it in an exact position unless there is a stud in the wall. You can just hammer a nail into the drywall and expect it to hold up a heavy clock. There are two ways to find a stud. The first and most accurate way is with a stud finder device. You just go over the wall and it'll beep when it finds one. The other way is through sound. You basically tap on the wall and listen to the hollow sound. You keep doing that across the wall until the hollow sound disappears and you have a stud.
Once you have the stud and you've decided on how high you would like to put the clock, mark an x on the wall in pencil. Don't start putting holes in the wall yet. As this point you want to take a hammer (or screwdriver) and put it into the stud. Obviously the longer it is the more support that you will get from it. Typically I'll pull down on the nail with my finger, just to see how strong it is. Obviously if it stays in place you're read to put up your clock.
Next you're going to have to hang the clock and this can be a little tough. Getting it to balance properly can be a little tricky, especially with the heavier and older clocks. Remain patient and you should eventually get the clock the way you want it to be.
