I wanted to talk to you about chime clocks and how you can find a good one for your home. Umm, this type of clock is really quite old. I believe the first ones that came out functioned in this manner. The great thing about these old clocks is that they have real charm. They are considered antiques by a lot of people, so you know that it will hold onto its value over time.
I think the best place that you can start is on the internet at auction sites, and other online listing sites. Typically this means sites like eBay and Craigslist. You can find all sorts of things on these sites. Obviously eBay will have a pretty good search function for you to find things, plus the items are designed for being shipped. Where as with Craigslist you're expected to pick them up and do a local transaction. I obviously bring up these two first because they're about the cheapest way to get them.
Yard sales are another great place to find them because people are always looking to get rid of old junk. And you know the saying; one man's garbage is another man's treasure. This is the case where you can pick up a pretty nice clock for a fraction of what it is worth. Most people don't know the value of clocks and they frankly don't care. They just want to sell it and get a little cash for it.
When it comes to the actual types of chime clocks that you can get, there are varieties. A lot of people assume that it will have a pendulum. That is a traditional way of looking at it, but they don't all have them. Typically the pendulum shows that the clock is actually on the older side. It's one of the older technologies where the rate in which is swings will turn a crank for the second hand.
A lot of the older clocks you pick up will need to be finished again. It really isn't that hard to do. Even if you're not a handy man, there really isn't much to it. Basically you sand down the wood and apply a few coats of varnish to it. It's pretty simple. This way you can have a great looking clock for cheap.
